Windows 10 Emails Disappeared

If you download emails, and they are removed from the email server at the same time, then the next time your Mail app checks for new email and syncs, it will be downloading am empty inbox folder, and thus your emails disappear. Windows 10 users report missing contacts in the People Hub (with solution) The solution is to visit the settings in the account area of the app and then forcing a sync. Do this tapping on the Settings icon Right Clicking on the account affected and clicking Synchronise. This is, of course, a temporary solution and the main resolution would be for Microsoft to address any back-end issues.
After upgrading to Windows 10 (and using Edge rather than IE), all of the folders etc. On the left side of my Verizon email disappeared.
Running Win 10 and the built in Mail program (Mail and Calendar Version 17.612.42001.0)
The mail program automatically set the setting for my POP3 account and all seems to work well. Emails arrive and the mail and calendar sync with my windows phone.
However in a day or so of receiving an email it will just disappear from the inbox in the Mail program. I have the view setting set to 'All' and my sync setting is set to 'Download from any time'.
I was concerned that this had something to do with syncing with my phone (running Win 8.1), as when I sync with the computer the emails on my phone disappear as well, so I disconnected syncing between phone and computer and the same thing is still happening.
There is no archive folder and no help at all in the 'help' file as to where to set up how to keep your emails.
I have also noted that deleted emails disappear from the deleted folder as well.
They are not being deleted from the server and if I run the old 'Outlook' program I can still see all the emails that have been received since converting to windows 10 and any new ones.
Where are my emails going and how do I display them again?

If MS want us to move away from programs such as Outlook it would help if we could still see emails more than a day later or, assuming it is a setting issue, the settings to allow keeping emails were slightly more obvious rather than buried better than Long John Silver's treasure!
