Windows 10 Screen Does Not Turn Off

Notification sounds are an essential part of an operating system. Whenever there is an important action performed, Windows by default provides feedback to the user through notification sounds. We hear notification sounds for most common actions like connecting or disconnecting a USB device, battery low alert, calendar reminders and so on. We have already seen how to change sound in Windows. This tutorial shows you how to disable or turn off Notification & System Sounds in Windows 10.
Windows 10 comes shipped with a new set of sound notifications, some are borrowed from Windows 8.1. If you are migrating to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 you can easily notice the changes. Windows 10 has a new set of sound alerts for events like Calendar reminders, Messaging, Email, Volume change, etc. There is a way to customize the system tones according to your preferences. You can even turn off sound for all system alerts in Windows 10 by changing few sound settings on your PC .
Clik on the Speaker icon in the taskbar and move the slider to change the volume of the sound.
Turn off System Sound in Windows 10
In order to be able to turn of system sounds in Windows 10, you will have to open the Sound settings. Right click on the Speakers icon which is present at the right side of the task bar.
You will see “Sounds” option in the popup. Clicking on this opens a new window where you can customize sounds.
The “Sound” properties box provides a variety of options to customize sounds according to your needs. Browse through the list of available program events and choose the one which you intend to change or test. After choosing a particular sound for a an event in the “Sounds” section , click on the “Test” button to playback the same.
This way you can modify sound for any of the events. Following are the list of few events, to which you can set the sound:

- Critical Battery Alarm
- Desktop Mail Notification
- Device Connect
- Device Disconnect
- Instant Message Notification
- Low Battery Alarm
- New Fax Notification

- Incoming calls and more.
Saving Sound Schemes in Windows 10
The modified sound settings can be saved as a scheme and can be switched according to your needs. In order to save changes you made to events, click on “Save as” button and assign a name, so that you can use it for now or for future use. You can always go back to the default sound settings by choosing the “Windows Default” option in the sound schemes section.
In order to turn off all system sounds in Windows 10, select the “No Sound” schema and save the sound settings as shown in the image. This should completely disable all system notification sounds.
Turn off Notification sounds in Windows 10
Apart from system notifications in Windows 10, there are apps which send sound notifications with banners which land in to Action Center. For example, breaking news applications sends toast notifications (banners) along with sound whenever there is a breaking news.
You can turn off notifications from these apps by heading to Settings app > System > Notifications. Just use the toggle under “Show app notifications” and turn it off. This should disable all notifications including Sounds from installed Windows Store apps.
You can also restrict a specific app from sending notifications by individually turning off app notifications using the same settings panel. You can either block complete notification from the app or block particularly “sound” by turning off “Play a sound when notification arrives” option – this results in silent app notifications which in turn piles up on your action center.
To completely disable all notification sounds for all the apps, move the slider for Show app notifications to the Off position.

One of the biggest things that annoys users about Windows 8 is its all-or-nothing Start screen. Windows 10 tries to fix that problem with a separate full-screen tablet mode that it hopes will soothe angry desktop users.
Tablet mode is a new feature that should automatically activate (if you want it to) when you detach a tablet from its base or dock. The Start menu then goes full screen as do Windows Store apps and Settings.
It’s also important to note that in tablet mode, the Desktop is unavailable. When you open for example, File Explorer, it will only appear maximized. So, tablet mode is truly a mode in which the Start screen is where you will spend most of your time interacting with Windows.
If you’re on a desktop with a proper keyboard and mouse, then you will be able to use the Start menu, which can be resized and adjusted to fit your needs and whims.
Windows 10 Not Using Entire Monitor
If you want to try out tablet mode because you have a touchscreen or you want to configure its behavior, then you can manually turn it on and make adjustments.
You first need to open the Settings and then the “System” group, then tap the on/off button under the “Make Windows more touch-friendly …” heading to enter or leave tablet mode.
You can also configure which mode your device assumes when you sign in, as well what your device should do when it wants to automatically switch tablet mode on or off.
In tablet mode, the most striking aspect will be that the Start menu is now the Start screen, similar to Windows 8.
Note that the icons on the taskbar will change, leaving you only with a back button, the search icon, and the virtual desktops button.
If you want your app icons to appear on the taskbar in tablet mode, you can show or hide them in the “Tablet mode” settings.
Full-screen mode in Windows 10 is a lot less annoying than it was in Windows 8 because now you can access you apps, folders, and settings with just a simple click of your mouse button.
You can also click the “All apps” button in the bottom-left corner to see and launch any of your installed applications.
Remember, in tablet mode, the desktop won’t be available though you will be able to still access the desktop folder through File Explorer. Otherwise you can use your computer and all its applications as you normally would.
The advantage to tablet mode will obviously be that it’s far more appropriate to touchscreens because of all the big targets it provides for our fat fingers. The one big caveat for most people may still be the fact that you’re dealing with the Start screen as the primary interface, though it does retain enough desktop elements that it will hopefully not be too confusing for most users.
